So, for the last day, I’ve been working on my blog design. For some strange and unknown reason, the sidebar had randomly shifted downward – despite me not having changed anything.
Now, I use WordPress, and pride myself at having skills and understanding of the CMS. My old manager from my last day job taught me much of what he knew about WordPress; the rest I learned through reading and experimenting, and creating new WordPress themes. I had Dre set up a subdomain on the server where the site is hosted, and WordPress was installed onto it, giving me a place to practice and play with what I saw as a fun, fascinating toy. Read more »
As many of you know, I currently make my home in Las Vegas, in the hopes of picking up some design work here and there. I used to live in the more upscale part of Vegas, but after the recession began, I ended up moving to the more downtown area. I am currently taking a few classes at the community college, mostly to move forward with an engineering degree, as well as to see how much I can grow as a designer with new challenges.
Today, when I arrived home from class, I decided to take a long walk to get a sandwich. Now, I could easily have sat at home and made myself a tomato sandwich with oat grain bread, and microwaved it to make it at least a little warm. This is a common principle, and it seems to apply to all things. For example, if you pay good money for a refridgerator, and buy one of the most expensive models you can find, chances are it has more bells and whistles than the cheapest brand, and could possibly even last much longer as well. This principle was especially brought home to me while I was in high school by a government teacher of mine.
I’ll admit that this teacher is one which I still consider a good friend. His lessons not only included the civics our class was supposed to learn, but also how to plan for retirement, and he often pointed out the social flaws that all of us have committed and is possibly the reason why I am passing the college classes I picked up. The stories he told to our class brought us not only a wealth of laughs, but also a wealth of experience. It was merely a topic he touched upon – that is, that you pay for what you get. Read more »
