Sometimes, you find a client that just really strikes your fancy. Not even just a client, but frankly a person.
I’m glad to say that thus far in the past couple of months, this has happened to me a couple of times. With all of the litigation that’s occurred in my life, there’s nothing more refreshing to me to wake up in the morning and realize that hey… I’m working with this client, or hey I’m almost finished with this design.
It has been quite a storm lately. Sometimes dark and grey, but in times like this, I really feel the spark of hope as it peeks over the horizon. I’ve always believed that things happen for a reason, whether it means a significant meeting of another person, or even a significant email. The theme from Mirror’s Edge, Lisa Miskovsky’s Still Alive echoes through my mind (note that I’ve only listened to the song; I haven’t actually played the game) – it’s a sad, happy song that gives me hope in that it points out that no matter what happens, I’m still alive, and it reminds me that some of the work that I’m doing is for a good cause.
It is refreshing to the soul, I think, to give back to the community. My first opportunity to do so was a month-long volunteering engagement with Spirital Therapies, which was extremely enriching. I was able to work with horses (one of my earliest loves), and recently I was contacted by C.A.T.S., Inc. to do some things for them. I’ll admit it – I’m very touched by both of these organizations. As one who has already have a total of nine cats over my lifetime, and five horses, and the proud owner of Haxx0r the Green Cheeked, I’m definitely very partial to animals (I’d say I probably get along with animals much better than I do people), and doing something which gives back to them – as well as to people – is something I take pride in.
In addition, I am currently working on a site for a political organization. Rather, editing a template for them – I changed a few design elements to it, but I can’t really say that it was completely my original work (thus it will most likely not become a part of my portfolio). While there is corruption amongst politicians, I do believe that government was created for a reason. Yesterday, my mom and I were driving through the projects. The ones here in Las Vegas are actually pretty nice; these particular projects looked almost like any other place, and were very clean and tidy. My sister lives in a similar area; I believe that these types of services are exactly why we pay taxes – to help one another and improve society as a whole. In some ways, I do feel conservative concerning politics, but in other ways I feel very liberal. The government is there to keep order, I feel, and keep society from killing itself and becoming complete and total anarchy.
Thinking about these things really brings me peace. Knowing that there are things that I can do as a person with the kinds of skills I was granted honestly makes me feel content with life. However, I do have a few things I do need:
- As I am relocating to another area to continue my training, I do need some funding. Namely, I am working hard to find a cosigner right now for a $5000/semester loan or at least some means to make this money up.
- Cook books, grant writing, and scholarship writing help would also be great. I do have two cook books designed for single adults (such as myself), but I do need help writing to grants and scholarships.
These are my major needs right now. As it stands, I’m taking things as they come. I’m very hopeful at this point; it seems so good to be true – almost too good. It really reminds me that things certainly happen for a reason.
