June 2009 Theme

July 1st, 2009

web design newsflash or new freelance designI am very surprised at myself.

And I don’t mean in a bad way. I mean as in – wow, I can’t believe it’s a redesign!

As you can see, the comment form is back to where it was before. Provided it’s not abused by spammers again, it should hopefully stay as it is. If spammers do choose to abuse it as much as they possibly can, expect a much stricter captcha to be put into it. Oh, and yes, I’m aware that it disappears after you submit it; that’s to prevent you from re-submitting it. No, really, it is!

There are a lot more small tweaks to this theme than meets the eye. The older one was a bit more static; it worked pretty well, but I mostly wanted to do a few things with this design that I hadn’t done before.

I also got rid of my “resources” page. Really, this page was born from people wanting to do link exchanges with me – the problem, however, is why should I link to designers who offer bargain discounts for sub-par designs? I want my clients to see me, and get the kinds of designs they deserve.

You might also see that I chose to do the headlines in a serif font. Now, I could have done the entire site in a serif font, as opposed to making my paragraphs sans-serif, but I know that I’m pretty long-winded in my blog posts. Even with the adjustments to kerning (letter spacing) and line-height, I’ve always preferred sans-serif for longer blocks of text, but I do feel that serif is something somewhat unusual, and can be good in small amounts.

Also, as Dre and Sam have been working more and more in the background, I’m still drafting out bits of the “About” section you’ll find on the front page. Yes, I know, Dre is temporarily gone, especially as she’s been working more on the Dreamwidth project, but she’s still serving and working as the quality tester. Sam’s been off doing his own gigs lately, but still does some content for us – once the MagPC design gets done, you’ll see yet more of his work hit the press. :)

Haxx is doing great too – I think she very much approves of the new redesign. Well, aside from where she continuously attempted to snatch my tablet’s pen right out of my hand (possibly saw bugs in the code before I uploaded). Will have to drop her a few mangoes now that this is live.
