Wow

October 30th, 2009

The past few months have been absolutely amazing. I can’t really describe it any better than that; I realize I haven’t updated in quite a time, but part of this is because the passage of time has absolutely flown by.

I realized today that I was never able to update my portfolio. Well, that’s okay; I did get caught up in one or two other projects I was working on, admittedly.

The last few days, the weather has been almost perfect. We’ve had some rain storms, and a few times the power lines have come down. I read some statistic that Sacramento has more trees per square inch than people, so I find this all right; the longest we had was one that lasted for a few hours. It definitely beat out Louisiana, which had weeks and weeks of power outages at a time.

Sometimes, when I’m walking to get food or to pick things up, I find myself very amazed. I still have a hard time believing that I’m really actually here, and that this is my life now. A week ago, I actually saw a golden eagle; it was very amazing. It had landed in the bushes outside of where I live, and was trying to untangle itself. I watched it for a few minutes, and it watched me back. Determining that I wasn’t a threat to it, the great bird finally untangled itself and took off with its prize – one of the millions of squirrels which make their home here.

The wildlife itself is fantastic. Squirrels, I’ve decided, are very much like cats. They are very inquisitive, very paranoid, and very silly. It’s not uncommon to see a handful of squirrels chasing one another around, perhaps on the lush grass or around a tree, and flicking their tails. It often reminds me of the cats left behind in Las Vegas, and I smile and shake my head.

There’s a river which runs between me and the shopping center where I go, and across it is a bridge. I walked across this bridge one day, being lazy and just enjoying the day. I noticed some ripples in the water, only they were moving against the current. I thought maybe they were ducks, but as they came closer, I realized they were river otters – for a few moments of ecstasy and delight, I watched as they swam under the bridge, and out of sight.

I suppose these small moments of delight are some of the most important ones. Finding treasures, no matter how big or small they are, are important. I can’t say that I’ve taken anything for granted to this point in time. Every moment that passes is another to be enjoyed – some sort of delight, et cetera.

And it’s those little rays of golden sunlight that makes life beautiful.
